Cars in 1957: More than 20,000 names were considered and rejected before the Edsel was named for the only son of Henry Ford. Poet Marianne Moore had suggested the names "Andante con Moto," "Pastelogram," "Mongoose Civique," and "Utopian Turtletop." Jack Parr eventually called it "an Oldsmobile sucking a lemon."

Much of the failure and ridicule of the Edsel was a result of over-hyping the car before it was introduced. While is wasn't that bad a car, it didn't live up to inflated expectations. Only 110,847 models were sold and those few still around are collectors items today.
