The Founder of Michael J. Hynes Automotive

Michael Hynes grew up in Ballylara, Co. Galway, Ireland in a family with little mechanical knowledge. in the 1920s there were very few cars in the neighborhood. Only the wealthy at that time owned cars. In order to gain experience, Michael worked on these cars free of charge. Later, he left for London where he began working on cars for the very prestigious company, Rolls Royce.

Michael came to the US on June 10th, 1949. He was 38 years old when he first set foot on American soil. He settled in Brighton, MA, where he lived the rest of his life, with his wife Theresa, 2 sons Michael J., Barry, and daughter Martina.

After moving to Brighton, he became manager of the Kilsythe Garage on Commonwealth Avenue in Brighton. In 1960, 11 years after coming to Brighton, Michael started his very own repair business. It was a very modest beginning.... a small leased space for auto repair, which held only 2 vehicles, located on Harvard Avenue in Allston. Approximately one year later, he built his own auto repair shop from the ground up, located at 10 Redford Street in Allston.

This family owned and operated business has expanded over the years with three locations and a staff of over 30 experienced auto repair technicians - and it is still growing. The Hynes family business is now into its third generation of operations.
