Cars in 1926: Henry Ford, who made the assembly-line production of cars famous, proclaimed Saturday a day off. He had already reduced the usual nine-hour workday to eight. Ford's considerable influence meant that other manufacturers had to follow suit. He understood that the increased leisure time would create a demand for a vehicle to get away in on the weekend - and the Model T became a leisure time necessity!
